    Not all PT is created equally. There are lots of leg and glute stretches that can and should be done post OP. Whether it’s in house PT or out patient PT. Of course the older you are or fatter, or out of shape you are, the longer it will take. I’m 45. Good shape. Im on my feet walking 4-5 miles a day at work for 4 years now. Just fused L5 S1 2.5 weeks ago by a highly rated back surgeon here in Pasadena California. I came into the surgery in really good shape and I think that’s what’s propelled coming out of the surgery advanced from what the typical patient is. For example, I was released from the hospital within 24 hours because I wowed the hospital PT folks with how well I was moving. Second, in-house PT showed up a week after surgery and he said they were having a problem putting together a plan because it’s not normal for them to see fusion patients as advanced as I am. Now, my back surgeon just released me to outpatient physical therapy. I’ve got leg pain and glute pain with extremely tight glutes and hamstrings. So the PT is limited to leg and glute stretches. No bending, lifting, flexion or twisting. Maybe I’m fortunate to live in a geographical area where good therapists are all over the place and know what they’re doing. I can imagine a PT in some middle of nowhere town may not be as skilled and could ruin the surgery.

    A week from my lumbar fusion in 🇫🇮. Naturally I have also got my rehabilitation info, but still so happy to listen to this advice! Remembered this video from before, and found the info I needed: I can and should walk as much it feels good. I am doing 15-minute-walks, resting, sitting, doing very light house work with a straight back, walking, resting.. It is nice to have in a simple life cycle. 😁

    You never heal completely from any back surgery.. it can be frustrating as all hell to have to learn that AFTER THE FACT. The medical industry is just that, an industry, a sales force, and your back will become their cash cow.

    I'm about to have s1L5 fusion and I'm on medicaid. I am terrified but I have no life right now, I've tried what I can afford and stand and nothing is working anymore. Swimming hurts. I'm scared because surgeons don't pow wow w Medicaid patients they don't do the inside scoop w us. I've heard him talking it up w his private pay patients and w me he's dry cut and quick. But he's a good surgeon so I'm trusting I will be ok. Thank you for sharing what I should know.

    Love your video series. Thankfully I am a non-smoker so I don't have to worry about that. I underwent four level ACDF about 4 weeks ago and I am recovering well. I'm wearing a bone growth stimulator. My cardiologists is recommended that I take an 81mg baby aspirin as I've been doing for the past six or seven years. I understand that NSAIDS and the like or contradictory to proper healing, but would the baby aspirin by itself impact my healing I am taking lots of protein, calcium supplements as well as vitamin d to enhance my bone growth. How do you feel about the baby aspirin?

    Bravely despite the pain, many cope with an invisible illness that is often not understood by doctors. The doctor learns in his training that when you hear horse hooves, don't expect a zebra! We the ZEBRAS spread awareness. RUclips Ehlers Danlos society 🦓

  • @omanita7289
    @omanita7289 3 месяца назад

    🦓He forgets to mention how wonderful it is for young adults to wake up in the morning with a dislocated hip or shoulder. That it is a connective tissue disease, connective tissue not only holds your skeleton but also your heart, brain and lungs in place. Without connective tissue, your body collapses. Our muscle strength literally keeps us standing. This so-called professional has no idea how complex the multi-system disease EDS is. No two EDS patients are the same, it is an overwhelming hereditary disease. We are the zebras among the horses, doctors only listen to the massive horses' hooves, at least one zebra among 5000 horses.🦓

    UGH! As a classical EDS patient I wanted to love this so much. I mean, here's a chance to hear a medical professional share important insights for non-EDS patients on how absolutely debilitating and painful this disorder is and maybe even provide a little validation to those of us who suffer every single day with little to no support, compassion or understanding. Instead, we get to hear how "cool" this disorder is because we so "bendable". Inappropriate, glib and insensitive. I feel so bad for the patient laying on the operating table waiting for his/ her back to be fused and the rest of his/her life being altered yet again forever while you're recording this "cool" video. Geesh...find some professionalism at the very least. What a missed opportunity.

    You are exaggerating and spreading misinformation here in your district ions. There are multiple types of EDS that appear in a variety of ways. You didn’t even mention the common facial features of VEDS. This is incredibly disappointing that you think this is “cool” and you think spreading the stereotypes that most EDS sufferers are contortionists or can perform party tricks for you. Please consider making a more accurate medical video to share.

    I have Scheuermann’s disease. I had a 10 level fusion. 20 screws 2 rods, and 2 connectors for top and bottom from collarbone to bellybutton. Feb. 24 2015. I’m not fractured anymore, but it did nothing for the pain, and in some ways, made it much worse.

    I had l4 l5 s1 fusion with disks l4 and l5 replaced. Im in month 5 of healing and about to try going back to a more normal life. I just went back to work. I took off 4 months to absolutely heal the best it possibly could because I wanted this to be my last back surgery. This was my 2nd back surgery and the first one I went back to activities after 50 days and it was too soon and I really messed up the healing. I'm not pain free but have more mobility. After 24 years of living with pain I was hoping this would solve my pain but it didn't. But I have lived with pain for so long it's normal but I'm excited to have more mobility and looking guard to getting out and living a little more freely!

    Ok, I have hEDS, and 2 things…it is a gross overstatement to say that all of us can or could do major party tricks. I was bendier when I was younger, sure, but I was never a pretzel person. I am still significantly affected by the disorder today due to my lax ligaments causing instability and hypermobile joints. As one gets older it usually leads to early and worse arthritis than most, so we can also become stiffer and carry much more damaged joints, and then suffer that pain as well. (i.e. My jaw joints were completely gone, worn away, by age 29. The hypermobility paired with a sleep disorder of night bruxism-extreme involuntary unknown clenching & grinding while sleeping, completely destroyed them. Yes, I wore nightguards all my life. All that’s done is keep me from completely destroying my teeth, but the hypermobility in my joints was no match for that disorder.). Anyway, EDS is a very complex disorder, that involves much more than our joints. It affects all soft tissues in our body, so even our digestive system, eyes, skin, etc. can be affected. Lastly, I would not ever refer to it as a “cool” condition as you did. There is nothing cool about it. It’s painful, complex, and takes many years to get people to listen to you because hardly anyone knows about it. The ones who do don’t know enough. So no offense to you, and I do not mean to sound unkind, but you are unfortunately one of them. Please educate yourself more so that when you are sharing about it, you are doing so accurately. This is how we become unseen, misunderstood, and dismissed by doctors. There is WAY more to look for than a person who can do party tricks or eventually ends up with severe cervical instability, which I’m so sorry your patient has. I have it as well, but so far prolotherapy and PRP have been enough for me to keep things from slipping out and causing catastrophic problems. I hope and pray that it stays that way, but my shoulders are also problematic, and I’ve already had major jaw surgery and facial reconstruction due to hEDS. I’m glad that you can help this young lady temporarily, and I hope she fares well in her fusion journey. It’s true that it isn’t a permanent fix, and that it will further compromise other areas and cause them to become more lax and damaged. Bless her heart, and I do thank you for bringing attention to the disorder. We certainly need it. I hope you will leave my comment up as I have the best intentions. Thank you.
